Fortescue Metals Group | Threatened Fauna Monitoring

Fortescue Metals Group operates three regional mining hubs and associated port and rail infrastructure across the Pilbara region. Spectrum has completed the ongoing monitoring of threatened fauna species across all of these sites since 2018. Threatened species that require monitoring include Northern Quoll, Greater Bilby, Pilbara Leaf-nosed Bat, Ghost Bat, Pilbara Olive Python and migratory shorebird species.

Spectrum staff have developed a series of complementary monitoring methods that allow monitoring to be completed across multiple sites, taking into consideration the unique attributes of each population. Methods include the use of cage trapping, motion cameras, acoustic recorders, transect searches and set time/area searches.
